Rocky and Rickina

Rocky now weighs in at 6kg and is very healthy. He still needs a lot of encouragement to climb. Rocky will often take his food and enrichment down to the ground to eat.

When Rocky plays with the other orangutans he likes to wrestle and roll around on the floor with them. Rocky is very methodical with his enrichment and he will spend ages with a box of treats, picking through the sawdust to make sure he gets every last seed and nut. He will then have fun playing with the box and string.

Rocky loves termites and will peel away the layers of old wood to get at the tasty termites which are high in protein. Termites are an important food source for wild orangutans so it is excellent that Rocky likes them.

Whenever Rocky is unsure he will seek comfort from Rickina and they will cling to one another, their arms intertwined. He also enjoys Onyo’s company and he will often play wrestle with Gunung and Anjas even though they are both a lot bigger than him.

Rickina is a strong and healthy little orangutan, now weighing 6kg. She is becoming more independent of Rocky, however they will still cling to each other if they are feeling anxious. She also enjoys the company of Onyo and they often play together.

Rickina has quite a feisty nature and will slap and bite anyone who she dislikes. Rickina loves her food, especially rambutans and she is always first in line when food and treats are being given out. She is getting a lot better at climbing and will often use the rubber ropes to bounce on before landing on one of the other orangutans below her.
