When Lear first arrived at the Care Centre five years ago, he weighed only 6.6 pounds (three kilograms). He was so young that he did not yet have any teeth. Lear is now approximately six years old and plays all day in the large playground made just for him and his friends. Although he is strong, his coordination still needs some refining as sometime he misses his landings when he jumps. Lear mostly plays with his best friend Alexander by ambushing each other with giant tackles, and then rolling round on the ground play-fighting. They often take breaks to collect themselves and then pounce on each other again!
Lear is very affectionate and loves cuddling with his caregiver. He also likes to climb into t-shirts with the person still wearing them. He does have a naughty streak and will pull your hair shamelessly when you least expect it. You can always tell when Lear is up to something by the way he travels by somersault instead of walking or swinging.
Lear's favourite fruits are rambutan, bananas, and pumpkin but he especially enjoys “ketchup manis” (a thick, sweet soy sauce). Lear is doing very well at the centre, developing the necessary skills at “jungle school”, but will need a few more years gaining the skills required before he will be ready to be released into the forest.
